The Icelandic interior opens for a few weeks in summer and closes again. I had a small 4x4 with the highland insurance and a route through Landmannalaugar that involved fording rivers I spent a long time staring at before driving through.
The ground up there does not look like anywhere else I have been. Black sand, green moss, rock the colour of rust, steam coming out of the hillsides. I stopped the car every few kilometres.
The weather changed about once an hour. I shot in all of it because there was no waiting it out.
